Elijah Franklin Shelton
My Great Great Great Great Grandfather
Elijah Franklin Shelton was born about 1792 in Virginia and died in February 1864 in Webster County Kentucky.
Elijah married Elizabeth Lynn around 1818. They had the following children:
Elijah was a Private in Company F, 14th Rgt, Kentucky Militia (Mitchisson's), from November 20th 1814 to May 20th 1816. His Regiment floated from the mouth of the Cumberland River, on flat boats to New Orleans, and fought in the Battle of New Orleans at Chalmette. He served as a constable for Henderson County Kentucky from 1817 to 1821, and lived on Whitelick Creek. In 1822 he moved only a few miles away to Union County Kentucky, to where the Shelton area is now located (this was very close to the John Lynn (Elizabeth's father) property. His home was approximately 3000 feet from Chalybeate Springs Methodist Church, and he helped form the community. This later became Webster County in 1860.
When he died in 1864, his land was divided up amongst his heirs. A view of the area can be seen here. It is not known where Elijah Franklin is buried, but his some of his children are buried at the Chalybeate Cemetery and Walnut Grove Cemetery.
